For our 1995 pantomime, we chose Mother Goose. This is a pantomime based on the fairy story of the goose that laid the golden egg. The story comes from the evil Demon King kidnapping the goose so that he can cut it open and steal all the eggs inside. Mother Goose is the name of the Dame, not the goose, who just happens to have been called Priscilla.
This pantomime began what was to become a stock pairing of Ken as the Dame and Martin as the lovable fool, who is usually the dame's son. This combination lasted until 1999 when we gave Martin a rest. This year also marked the departure of Ian, who will always be remembered for his talent to play the villain as the comedy lead. For example making his first entrance carrying a pint of beer and apologising in advance for not knowing his lines.
The second picture on the right was taken during the villain's performance of Michael Jackson's Bad.
The Goose was a seven foot fur costume worn by person writing these notes in his first outing for the group Needless to say, the costume was unbelievably hot in the lights. Still at least there were no lines to learn (except the occasional honk).
